“I have never read Jane Austen.”
I said.
“Emily Bronte and Jean Rhys but
never Jane Austen.”
“You should be ashamed of yourself,”
she said.
So I hung my head in shame and kept on
not reading Jane Austen.

😂 Good for you! Never let anyone tell you what you should or should not read. I’d die of boredom if I couldn’t read trashy novels… Personally I love Jane Austen for her amazing sarcasm…

Thanks. I have had a few goes. I enjoyed the films of her novels; does that count ? 🙂

Of course! Although they tend to play them too seriously, she really was funny for her time.

I may give ‘Pride and Prejudice’ another go, seeing that’s the one you hear most about

I’ve enjoyed Jane Austen novels, and have a warm regard for the time period and the legacy of the stories she left behind. With that said, I’d like to add Jane Eyre could give Elizabeth Bennet a run for her money. :p No offense meant, Pride and Prejudice fans! Fitzwilliam Darcy could teach Edward Rochester a thing or two as well.
