I have a mote in my left eye
not the metaphoric one that Jesus
spoke of
but an actual one of grit.
I have amoat in my head too
which is metaphoric.
It cuts me off from needy people
which is kinda funny
coz Iβm needy too.
Some people are overly guarded.
Too many moats to cross.
Australia has a moat,
a helluva big one
called the Pacific Ocean
on one side
& the Indian on the other
the one that boat people crossed
to get to Australia.
One family from Vietnam
lived across the road from us
for years.
I wrote about the man, the grandfather
in my first book.
[I’ll post it tomorrow]
A moat as big as the ocean
is hazardous.
Not everyone made it back then.
The Earth is surrounded
by a moat too
the vast star-studded ocean
of space.
I could go on but this poem
is starting to drift.
so Iβm going to put a moat around it
and close it off.

It’s very emoative. All the growing moats. My favourite is the metaphoric one in your head. Mine gets wider the older I get. I feel grumpier and less patient. Guarding my patch.

very clever [ ’emoative’ ] and analytical: yes, the poem is a mess ; it needs pruning. I really appreciate the thought you put into this and I love ‘guarding my patch’ π

Is your mind trying to tell you something John?

it is, Carolyn but I can’t work out what it’s saying: it’s all a little garbled π¦ and btw so good to hear from you π

Glad to be here again. Only you can work out what the message might be John …

you’re right, Carolyn: at least you’ve made me aware of what I’m trying to suppress π

Carolyn: you’ve hit the nail on the head: is it too late to change?? please tell me it’s not

If you know there’s something that needs, or should be changed there’s always time, I’d think. Changes for the better, different ways of doing things, apologies for doing the wrong thing, acknowledging poetry doesn’t have to rhyme … but you already know that one!

I sure do; but I still like to slip back into rhyme when no one is looking π

I took it down, Don; I thought I had said too much, though it was only 4 lines long; can someone say too much in 4 lines ??

Yes it did say a lot. Can one say too much in one line?….

gee, Don, these are tough questions; I just don’t know at this stage: it’s a pity really because I had two more tiny tales just as short and biting π¦

I guess , Don, it’s the worry of disclosing too much about my own life: we all need a little moat around ourselves: our little patch of privacy π

I guessed that was the reason…..

yes, it had to be, Don; sometimes when we are goaded we overstep the mark; it pays to be aware of it

I can’t believe this mess of a poem has accrued the comments it has — and they all carry heft !!

Like the idea of the Pacific ocean being a moat.
It might protect you, but it leaves you a bit isolated, remoat even!

Dauphy will be making an appearance shortly, he’s having a snooze. Don’t know if it’s an age thing, or a dog thing!π
