I like a poem with muscle
a poem with vim and vigor
I like a poem with its hand
firmly on the trigger
Love a poem low and lusty
a poem that readily scans
the sort of poem that you hear
at a poetry slam

I’ve been to too many poetry readings where poets mumbled into their shoes; a waste of their time and ours —

Wonderful requirements. Are you placing a poem want ad? If so, I would add, the poem must be witty, as yours tend to be.

witty , yes; I forgot that one —

Well, do be careful you don’t forget more or you’ll have poems showing up at you doorstep worse than the nannies in Mary Poppins.

Lol … what a brilliant, funny comparison π yes, ‘witty’ is certainly up there; the saddest thing is those poets who deliver in a sotto voce voice; a good poem has the right to be heard !!! poets take note π ‘sotto voce’ is for lovers, not poets π

Now we’re getting to the heart of your poetic preferences. Let’s see: Loud, witty, strong, low and lusty. Sounds like your poetry preferences align perfectly withβ a “little person” that lifts dumbells and travels with the circus. π Did I nail it?

Lol ,,, you certainly did; there’s a bit of the primitive about me π

Yes, yes and it better be good, nothing worse than hearing polite clapping. As the poet you want to hear that whooping crowd.

I love a whooping crowd but haven’t quite got there yet: laughter, I get laughter for my funny poems so that’s half way there π

Poetry slams are outside of my 76 years of experience. That was a term and event form I missed.
What I love about quality poetry is it doesn’t mince any words going straight to the heart or the funny bone. It mines deep crevices in the human heart and sometimes even feeds the soul.

I like that, the way you put it; that’s the sort of poetry I like too π

Now that’s a call to speak loud and freely. Why hide behind words. Let them jump to creative depths. So cool and good, John. π

π the most infuriating are those who go out the front and read from pages of pages of script going over the time limit and speaking into the paper, not even looking up —
