It had been on the vacant lot next to the church
For over half a year and no one in all that time
Could rustle up enough motivation to mow the lawn
Or clear it of rubbish. I thought of calling
The number on the back a few times but just couldnβt
Get motivated enough to ring or attend one
Of their weekly meetings
& I thought about something
A friend had said about running a Special Olympics
For the Motivationally Challenged but the problem
With that, I said, was that nobody would bother
To turn up. I thought then of the historically highly
Motivated: Hitler, Stalin, the rapacious bankers, Isis
And concluded that a low motivated populace isnβt
Necessarily a bad thing.
Ha! Motivation is just a website away. Is online motivation different than real-life motivation? And if so, maybe we need to give people a digitial motivation rating as well.

You motivated me to motivate myself to join the motivational class my friend has been motivating me to join. But considering I am on hitlist of too many people and animals for making their stories public, I think I am better off without further motivation.

I love the twist at the end. In honor of the unmotivated, I think I’ll just lie around today and read.

it sounds a safe bet, Bob; if Hitler was more motivated to follow painting as a career —- at which he was mildly successful— he might have been too busy to bother about political matters and hence …..

Imagine, in an alternate reality, reading about Hitler as a impressionist painter, or may be visiting churches where he painted the roof…

We need to be motivated, but not obsessively. Too much motivation causes us to miss the simple pleasures in life.

well observed, Neil; there is a downside to motivation, especially the time consuming side —

I guess the ‘sign of motivation’ wasn’t taken literally or any other way.
And yes, too much motivation can be deadly.
So better stick to middle ground.
Funny and truthful. π

But, who will mow the grass, John?

that’s a good question, Chel; I don’t even know if people actually rock up to meetings; one day I must phone their number to see whether they are still active π

I agree, mowing the grass takes the highest amount of motivation, probably a pie-cut…
