I was in writing school again.
The teacher, Mr. Wiles, was tall and totemic.
He was disparaging a writer that was currently in the ascendant.
‘His prose is loose and lumpen’, he said. ‘It clumps along the hallway of sentences like Lurch in The Adams Family’

Only a disservice to those of the human race resembling Lurch. Otherwise, some comedy I needed today.

thank you; I was feeling morose but the image of Lurch clumping down those corridors lightened me up π

What a great line. I hope you did not let it fester, uncle!

Reminds me of a friend who as a child was sent to a therapist (like 70 years ago so a big deal) who wrote something for school that included βsliding down the razor blade of lifeβ. Quite shocking back then!

I hope that friend became a writer with a startling image like that —

Lurch, would be a great example for us writers. Had the distance look John.

The old Adam family were cooler than the new version. They had personality.

I agree totally. I haven’t seen the new film about’ I Love Lucy’ but I doubt it’ll be a patch on the original; Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’ is said to be not a patch on the original; some things it’s best not to mess with–

I agree John. Hard to re-create the old shows.
