She knows how to make you feel small
loudly with-holding favours
she bestows on all
She makes you wait till the very last minute
then tends to you
but there’s not much love in it
She doesn’t brook criticism, praise
& rejects the crawl
she’ll squash you like a snail you’re so small
Her kind multiplies in prisons, offices,
re-education camps
to some she’s a monster, others a champ

Great rhyme and meter. A character thoroughly depicted.

thanks Worms; it was pretty easy to write: I just let my feelings boil on the surface and the lines pretty well came, well, the first stanza at least and that set the template

thank you; I was fuming after a recent encounter; I decided to turn my anger into a poem, a sort of parable about her kind that exists everywhere; o, and the male of the species too and the intersexes: we all have it within us 😦

What brilliant characterisation in so few lines John.

I was fuming, Matthew; it wasn’t hard 🙂 sometimes it pays to be piqued 🙂

I agree with the comments above. This is very much to the point, not needing many words, but the character definitely comes through. Well done.

thanks. Bob; don’t do many portrait poems so this was a delight to write: to get my feelings out of me onto the page 🙂

There’s a fire in this one, The second stanza is sharp and stings. Definitely the sort of verse to slap on certain desks and doorways. Love it.

Yes, I’d love to know what set you off. Hope it has subsided. I almost wrote a nasty-gram myself today, but restrained. Now, I’m thinking I should have turned it into art, instead.

yes, you should: anger is a valid emotion; it is as true and energetic as love and it can be harnessed into art; I’m sure there are ‘angry’ paintings ; there are ‘angry’ films: ‘Taxi Driver’ for one, ‘THe Joker’ with Joaquin Phoenix is another

I agree. We traverse every emotion throughout our life experience. So it is encouraging to have art from the whole spectrum, that validates our own experience. Lets us know we are not alone. People experiencing peaceful happiness will likely be offended, until they experiencing the same pain and go Aha!☝️😲

indeed; nothing is off limits; we experience the full spectrum of emotions — even the outliers must be acknowledged 🙂

You are tapping into your emotions for inspiration, but it’s sometimes even better to take a step back and find that ‘calm space’ that exists in front of all of us and work from there ….

you’ve got a point there; this poem came rushing at me like a runaway train; I had to get out of its way and let it slam onto the page

Clever play of words, a great poem came out of anger. Such individuals try to crush you and you are right they are everywhere.

So true, words are our secret weapons! I knew one lady who was very condescending and in the garb on perfection made everyone feel so small.

I know, I just left the job, it started to take toil… I realized it’s not worth being around such individuals.
