You’re taking over, she says.
Am I? I say. I didn’t know that.
You men are all the same, she says.
I go away and think about it.
Can one take over without even realizing it?
Did Alexander the Great conquer all those kingdoms without
even being aware of it?
Did Genghis Khan?
Did these warrior leaders perform their actions with sleight-of-hand
fooling even themselves?
Take over? Who? Me?
I talk to my therapist who is mightily amused at the very notion.
She said what? Who? You?
I take a good look in the mirror as I pass by.
Ummm. My tentacles do seem to have grown longer.

Oh, how witty. Talk about a sleeper cell. A sleeper imperialist. Drowsy dictator. Wow, this seems like the perfect excuse actually.

I could have gone on with more recent examples: eg Comrade Putrid but I thought I’d locate it in the distant past —

thanks Hobbo; bit worried about those tentacles; they sneaked up on the page while my back was turned and would not leave; you don’t argue with tentacles π

Irregardless of whether or not anyone is taking over, relationships are complicated.

It is written that…It is only when a mosquito lands on your tentacles that you realize there is always a way to solve a problem without violence.

Your tentacles do seem to have grown a bit longer, if you ask me, which you wouldn’t because my snakes are dangling longer than usual, looking even more intimidating, petrifying passers-by. My hairstyle is better than yours. π€ͺ

Excellent writing. I dare myself to read in a bit of blame game here, fit for any parliament.

never considered that aspect, Ulle — but you’re right — ‘passing the buck’, ‘shifting the blame’ —
