My mind is a scold.
It calls me sloth,
a lassitudinous layabout.
Is that even a word, I say?
Get off the couch, it says. It’s early afternoon
Attend to your blog.
Your Yorkshire mate puts up three posts
to your one.
Write that poem about airing the sheets.
How they purr like cats as they are stroked
by the sun.
Re-read that article :
‘Should Leopards Be Paid For Their Spots’.
Phone your daughters.
Go see your sister.
Give people their worth.
Go to gym.
Release your inner Thor.
Okay, okay, I grumble
but, in truth, I’m happier
and have loads more energy
when I’m buzzing around
like a gingery bee.
How does that work?
Wow. So much here. Love the “tentacles” references to your other poem. Great work John!

Great rhythm, John, and fast paced too. You are incredibly prolific and write on so many different topics. You are anything but a sloth!

that’s true, Beth — and my next poem [which I’m sitting on till midweek] is all about momentum too; maybe it;s a theme of mine 🙂

Delightful inner dialogue, John. My favorite part is the purring cat sheet. The perfect image of relaxation. Stretching in the sunshine without worry or care. I am hardly ever in that mode, but I’d like to get there more often.

nor am I, K; like Beth said of my current post: ‘you are all about momentum’; that sound familiar ?

Ohhh!… “lassitudinous”
We all love it when you talk dirty.
Seriously, I’ve been following your blog long enough to catch a lot of the references. Sure I missed some, still.
Well done.

When you’re up and about, the mind, heart, and body follow. Lethargy only promotes more of its own. An interesting one, John. 🙂
