I suppose I should be getting ready
rather than hanging out here in the garden
drinking G & T’s
reading an ode to the art of ‘goofing off’
which is sort of like Jenny Joseph’s
‘When I am an old woman I shall wear purple’
which she wrote at 29
& that pic of Bill Murray at Cannes in his short-sleeved
psychedelic shirt, baby blue shorts & panama hat
looking ‘gleefully unhinged’
- pic from Style in ‘The Age’
I think that there could be no higher aspiration than to be “Gleefully Unhinged.”
You made my day, John. Thanks so much.

Unhinged is the new normal, John.
Isn’t it good to finally be in fashion?

Lol; still, you’d be a brave boy to wear this out in the world; don’t know what my mates would make of it at the pub Friday arvo π

Over some floral spandex
active wear, and perhaps
a pair of go-go boots π€

Guess we each have our own personal version of goofing off AND of unhinged?

I’m sure we do, Becky; all I know is we need to do it now and then to stay sane; like Seals said: ‘we’re never going to survive unless we’re a little bit crazy’ π

Whatever for? Youβve made a paradise and your poems invite us in. If I were you, Iβd never leave. Love the allusions, John.

true; actually I never did get to finish getting ready; I was too busy in the garden, under the palms, with my G &T’s, goofing off π

I love wearing Purple and I don’t consider myself an Old Woman, yet.

good on you; of course, she wrote her piece decades ago when dress codes would have been different, esp age related dress codes —

our poems need to become gleefully unhinged too . Hobbo: they need to sport psychedelic shirts and baby blue shorts and jaunty panama hats π

That picture definitely does do justice to that phrase. Whatever suits one. And however. π

Murray appeared on stage at last night’s Oscars, during the In Memoriam segment, to honor Ghostbusters director, Ivan Reitman… Every time I see the man I think, OMG it’s Bill Murray! And that’s what I say here.

he cuts a remarkable figure; ‘Ghost Busters’ and ‘Groundhog Day’ are my favourites of his; my partner loves ‘Scrooged’ but it doesn’t work for me π
