I don’t speak Chinese.
Nor do I speak Russian
though I do speak Latin
[three years at Uni]
though no one speaks it anymore
nor do I speak Crow
like those blokes at the gym
who ‘follow’ the Adelaide Crows footy team,
speak the arcana of the game,
the iconography of past champions,
the minutiae of every quarter,
pumping statistics rather than iron.
I’m on the outer of the inner circle
though I get far more gym done.
I can imagine the conversation, very intense as if it makes a difference π

‘intense’ pretty well sums it up, Kate π

glad you are able to get your gym done with all of the cackling noise around you

hahaha; it was an effort , Beth but I’m dedicated to my workout not to cackling comments π

On the outside of the conversation is not always the worst place to be!

thanks Matthew; I’m ready to make intelligent comments when they get off the bloody Crows π

Sometimes it’s good to be an outer-inner! These little cliques often speak a unique language.

thank you, Hobbo; it’s too much effort for me to desipher when I’m not really interested —

Not many people studied Latin to degree level, John! I managed an A level.

well done; I loved Latin, I loved reading Ovid and Catullus in the original ; bit rusty now: don’t think I could hold my end of a conversation if a Roman came up to me now π

I agree about the gym banter. But I do wish I spoke crow.

I’d say ‘Good for you, John’. Move those legs and hips, not those lips. Haha! π

Ha, minutiae indeed. Sounds like you’re getting a good workout, while they TALK about a workout.

Ah, sports fanatics. There may be different sports to geek out over (Baltimore Ravens here), but theyβre all the same. Though, um, Go Cats! Very fun, John!
