Is it any good pleading? Thompson says.
For your life? Not really.
But you can’t just toss me aside like a dog carcass, not after all I’ve done for you.
You were more than serviceable, Hunter admits. But you’ve served your purpose. You can’t argue with me.
Will it be painless?
Yes.
Well, get it over with then.
One minute, Hunter says.
He reaches into his satchel and pulls out his laptop.
Finish your drink, Hunter says. Out with the old and in with the new, he smiles, keyboarding fiercely.
He taps the delete button.
And with that, Thompson is gone.
Built up so well here. Chills, and then laughs. How do you do this? Got me, for sure. what happens to all those well-loved discarded keys, do you suppose?

Ha John, your image really adds to the drama of this poem. 😀
And Hunter Thompson? Not a fan? 🙂

I’ve never read Hunter Thompson; I chose those two names indiscriminately ; I’m proud I built drama up in this little space; thanks Eden 🙂

Interesting, how you came up with those names. Great build up too. 😀

thanks Eden; I admire you and Bill; I find it difficult to write flash fiction these days; poetry comes so much easier; I must try a little harder 🙂

Thats an innovative way. He should have pressed shift+delete or Thompson might just land in the recycle bin. Haha! So creative, John! 🙂

we do it all the time, don’t we Terveen? we call characters to life, give them a personality, appearance, a role in the drama we’ve constructed and then when they’ve served their purpose, we delete them; it makes me think of us: we’re all characters in someone’s play and one day we’ll —- shudder, shudder

That’s the darkest but also truest reality. One just has to be ready for the eventuality. But it’s never easy…
