What is the cat looking for under the gate?
Perhaps the old tom two doors down trudging across the road like a sloppy sentence.
Perhaps the purr that left her mysteriously six months ago.
Or maybe she’s dreaming of the Krazy Kat cartoons she loved read to her as a kitten.
Or what the rest of her siblings are up to at the Pet Barn and whether they landed on her feet like her when she was adopted.
Or maybe she’s just curious. She’s a cat after all.
Delightful musings, I love the “sloppy sentence” line. Maybe she’s expecting someone, someone she’s intuited for some time?

maybe,K 🙂 I had so much fun with this piece of whimsy — and yes, I like ‘sloppy sentence ‘ a simile I’ve never seen elsewhere; could I be the first ?

I haven’t heard it before. Wouldn’t it be so ‘neat’ if you were? Did I mention I really enjoyed your piece. 💜

🙂 thanks K: I want to squeeze as much fun as I could from my ruminations; the photo took over 5 minutes to take: she was wary of me standing behind her so had to act nonchalant 🙂

She’s curious no doubt. 🙂 That second line is absolutely delicious though, I could eat it up. 😀

hahaha; thanks Eden: I wouldn’t get rid of that line if they paid me 🙂

Perhaps the cat caught a glimpse of its double image and is recoiling from deja vu.

It seems YOU’RE a bit curious to know. You’re a poet, after all.

I was. I still don’t know what she was seeing. I was not at her level 😦

“trudging across the road like a sloppy sentence” that’s brilliant! I always wonder too what my cats are staring at. The inner life of a cat must be pretty interesting.

I would never have written that sentence without exposure to your surrealist posts, Bob; and yes, the inner life of cats would make good fodder for poetry; I’m working on it 🙂

One never knows what a cat is up to. I would not trust one. They seem to look right through you and convey a silent warning. Haha! Nice one, John. A cute pic of curiosity. 🙂

I’m wary of cats too, Terveen; I am more of a dog person 🙂

Brilliant! Sloppy Sentence, you could open a (poetry) bar with that name
