I love to sing a capella
In the rain ‘neath my umbrella
To dance like Gene Kelly did
In the puddles like a kid
I like to make a lot of noise
I love the sound of my own voice
And I’m as rich as Rockefeller
in the rain ‘neath my umbrella.

That opening two lines are magic, John. Here’s to tap dancing raindrops and the seemingly endless rainstorm show tunes.

Lol; yes indeed; there was a pigeon doing a little tap dance on the pergola yesterday afternoon and I thought of Gene Kelly 🙂

Tap dancing pigeon? If you see him again please take a video or a photograph at least. He will likely steal the show, though. 😁

Not easy to rhyme umbrella, but you did a wonderful job of it! Wonderful playful poem, John!

thank you, Eden: yes ‘umbrella’ is a little like ‘orange’ in that regard; I had such fun writing the loopy lines 🙂

I think there are many of us; look at how many ‘rain’ songs there are, including the apocalyptic ‘Have You Ever seen the Rain’ —

“I can’t stand the rain . . . ”
that’s from another song, John,
but I do love your poem 👌😎👍
It’s such a pity that Stanley Kubrick
took that ‘Singing In The Rain’ song
and gave it a nefarious connotation
to a whole (younger) generation☔😢

that’s a new one on me, David; there’s a whole lot of Rain songs, including one of my favourites, the sitar accompanied ‘Rain’ by the Beatles, the flip side of ‘Paperback Writer’ —

Sounds like a Ravi Shankar thing 🤔
He was a friend of George Harrison.

actually he was too; the Beatles used a sitar in a few of their songs, namely ‘Rain’ and ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ which, if memory serves me right, id the last track on ‘Revolver’ —

Pre-Bollywood, Indian music was
in fashion back in the ’60’s 🌼✌️🌸
Brian Jones even leant to play the
Sitar. Sadly, he would’ve been better
off learning how to swim wave 🌊😎

poor old Brian; he was gone far too young 😦

Yes, Keith and Mick should never
have kicked Brian out of the band 🤔

It’s great to feel like that. So liberating. I wish I could dance like Gene Kelly. Mesmerizing! Let the rain(words) soak you, John.
