Curdle
I like nothing better at night or on languid afternoons
than to curl up on the couch with Tessa Hadley
reading me one of her tales,
familiar yet fresh, cozy yet curdling at the core
like a Victorian murder mystery

Tessa Hadley, eh? Does she have a sultry voice? Sounds relaxing, John.

haha; I was hoping you’d read this; she’s a writer I strongly recommend; seductively cozy tales that curdle at the core; familiar yet unstable as francium π

With a recommendation like that, I will have to give her a go. Thank you, John.

you already are a competent prose writer but reading Tessa may take you to the next level : ‘funny little snake’ and ‘Abduction’ are two other classics; give ‘The Other One’ a miss —

Then it is a must. π I will try to find one of her short story collections.

what I enjoyed most, K, was her unsettling revelations and exquisitely carved sentences ; I’m reading ‘An Abduction’ now: it is not what you’d expect — it takes you down very strange places; I hope you find the book π

well worth a look, Beth; The New Yorker regularly features her stories so she’s contemporary; if you only read one, read ‘After The Funeral’ —
