People Chat More in Pools.
People chat more in pools.
You walk up and down.
Say hello.
You talk, share stories,
laugh, banter,
trade histories.
Find your tribe.
Itβs like being in a pub
without the alcohol
or in church
without Jesus.
You slip under the nylon ropes,
do a few laps,slip back
then chat some more.
You can even write poems in pools.
I go to gym a few times a week too
but people chat more in pools.
An interesting observation. Perhaps water relaxes people.

I wondered that too, Worms, It’s such a contrast to people interactions between the gym and the pool which are in the same building and shared by quite a few people who use both —

I think water must lower inhibitions since you’re near naked anyway. π

maybe that’s it; the atmosphere is different in the gym, same building, much less milling around —

Do they now? Because they donβt chat on treadmills or work-type treadmills too much.

true; what I have noticed about treadmills and exercise bikes, people read their phones quite a lot; I don’t but quite a few do —

I don’t read my phone because I’m running on the treadmill (I can’t even read in a car), but I do crank some tunes and pretend I’m taking laps for various causes, like say, I’ll do a lap for a specific student that’s struggling, or a lap to put out the wildfires in California. (Now that I’m writing this, I realize it’s super silly).

that’s okay; we’re allowed to be silly, remember ?

I haven’t noticed this to be the case at the pool in my gym, but I’m intrigued that there is a pool like this

I’ve only been there a few times after a two year break; maybe for me, it’s the novelty; maybe because by early afternoon, it;s not crowded and there’s more opportunity to swap and change activities —

Interesting. I don’t go pools. Maybe I’ll need to change that.

Is there something about water that brings out the sociability in people?

I reckon there must be, Neil; off to the pool today to find out more π hope I don’t get too waterlogged π

Never knew that, John. Maybe the water drowns the inhibitions. Keep posting more revelations. Nice one! π

Maybe as we spend our first nine months in water we feel more at ease in the pool.
