Parable of the Breathing Tube

“You won’t even know it’s there,” said the surgeon.

“My brother-in-law sure did,” I replied referring to the incident in the ICU which I witnessed.

AS he was coming out of his sleep, he became aware of the tube down his throat and began struggling with it so violently that he had to be held down by three nurses while he was put into an induced coma. He stayed that way for three days.

“You won’t even be aware of it,” the surgeon said, “and if you are you won’t remember.”

I decided to go with that. In the end you have to put your faith in something.

Still, some days later as I was wheeled into the operating theatre, the last conscious thought was of that tube down my throat.

Many hours later as I slowly awoke, I remember the doctor saying, “the breathing tube is out now, you can speak.”

          “What breathing tube?” I asked.

The thing is, if you don’t know something has happened to you, has it really happened?

We All Have Our Wolves

Ever had a fear

so big

you lost the power

of your legs

reserves all gone

depleted

your yabbering heart

quite unseated

you’re miniscule

so small

the wolf

skyscraper tall

nothing to do

but await

till the fear

obliterates.

Could be your ex

a confined space

the wolf wears many

a different face

Remain steady

stare don’t start

just you, yourself

& yr red riding hood heart.

Courage

Sometimes I put up a post and no one visits.

No  ‘likes’.

No ‘comments’.

There is a terrible silence.

I’m like the wallflower at the dance.

The cheese that stands alone.

.I shrink. I shrivel.

I want to run, hide.

I’m the cowardly lion.

I panic.

I take the post down. I ditch it.

You must have noticed..

But once in a while, like my ‘Desecration’ post on Big Blue Mouth,

I leave it.

I stand by it.

I stand up for it.

Damn it all! It’s good, I say

Sometimes I have courage. Sometimes I don’t.

Faith

Folsom_Dam_Release

I pulled aside the blinds

that occluded my mind

Sunshine rushed in like

Water down a spillway

It felt so good, so holy

I knew I’d be okay

If I pulled aside the blinds

let in the sun’s rays

Niche

I’m looking for my niche.

I know it’s around somewhere.

But where?

The next corner?

At my window of opportunity knocking

While I’m off elsewhere?

We may have even bumped into each other

And not known.

But I’ll keep looking.

I know it’s out there looking for me too.

After all, we are made for each other.

Perhaps if I wore a name tag.

But I’m getting warm. I’m feeling lucky.

Before I only lapped at the shores

Of achievement

But once I find my niche

I’ll really make waves!
