great choice ! I got into this way back when Tracey Chapman sang it; and the lyrics are a narrative poem full of grit 🙂

great choices, Eden: the only one I haven’t heard is the ‘Suspicious Minds ‘ cover; will check that one out; thanks 🙂 Sinead’s cover is iconic ; my fave song of hers is ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ , an original —

The Johnny Cash cover of Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus” always catches me off guard when I hear it. And the Joan Jett cover of Tommy James’ “Crimson and Clover” is wonderful.

Wow. That’s a great question that I don’t think I could answer right away. But off the top of my head, Youth Group does a great cover of Forever Young.

yes ! I remember that cover but NOT the original ; that sometimes happens with great covers: a classic instance is ‘Horses’, a mild hit for Rickie Lee Jones but a massive hit for Daryl Braithwaite who turned it into an Aussie icon —

For me that’s easy—Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt,” originally a song by Nine Inch Nails. It’s so beautiful and sad.

one of mine too; such an amazing song; I don’t think Johhnny Cash ever recorded a ‘tepid’ song —
