I worry about you like you worried about Chloe
the day I never brought her home from the vet;
Would she be happy in Heaven?
Would someone throw the ball for her?
Take her for long walks across the blue pastures
Of the sky?
But I canβt rescue you from adulthood.
All I can do is cheer you from the sidelines
like I used to do in Nationals
Wish you fangs and claws to fight off the trolls,
The sting of the scorpion
A heart as fierce as Balerion, the dragon
From Game of Thrones,
But peaceful and playful as Puff, that magic dragon
From Honalee.

Sitting the sidelines is so difficult already with my two. How I long for the three of us to frolic in the Autumn must in a land called Honah Lee. Great post, John.

I feel this so much. Itβs so hard to let them be grown up. To let them go.

it is hard; mostly you wish them resilience, inner strength —

it was a fight between that and ‘let there be dragons’ but I thought the latter a little heavy handed π

Bittersweet, isn’t it? The cheering continues!!
I love the thought of ‘the blue pastures of the sky’ – and, yes, that is a more apt title.

thanks, Ed; it is important not to hammer home the point; after all, it is a poem not a polemic π

I like the balance of those words – poem and polemic
