I donβt like the way the branches slouch,
my grandfather would have said.
It shows a lack of moral fibre.
Grandfather did not approve of droop
though I think he could have cut the branches
some slack.
The best people slouch at times.
Oscar Wilde certainly did though he was no slouch.
And Tilda Swinton and Anne Hathaway were spotted
slouching at the Golden Globes.
I like the way Fridays slouch towards the weekend.
Poems should slouch a little too.
They should not appear cinched and pained
as if wearing a tight pair of underpants.

Yay to hunchback Fridays and the hope that we all we slouch towards slumber at the end of our each day. This poem has that ease I love about your poems, John. Bravo.

thanks; the ending surprised me , but it seemed right, if a little cheeky, so I left it in π

I think itβs the tall ones who tend to slouch, as for the tight underpants and poetry, Iβm all about free verse

This is wonderful John. I love your use of line breaks. And the Friday slouch. And the cinched in Grandfather. It all speaks of recommending boxers. π

This is great John. Wish I’d written it.

π you wouldn’t have liked the earlier version I had written two years ago: too slack π¦ so I tightened it up so it has just the right degree of slouch π

Great idea, poems should wriggle about in their boxer shorts!π

Haha! I slouch all the time. Itβs so tedious not to. And tight underpants can be a bit abrasive. Ouch!
Wit and precision, John! Lovely! π

a bit of slouch is preferable to being stiff-backed π

My grandfather said walk straight and tall. So I did. John, old grandpa told me. Walk with a sloth and you will have a back pain. I believe so. I still walk straight and tall, I feel my grandfather watching me from heaven.
